Work Experience Profile: Holly Leech
“Even though it sounds like a lot of work, with good support it is not and can be achieved within a year, most of the evidence produced can be x referenced. My advice is to just enjoy the learning experience.”
Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?
As it gives me the knowledge within the BTEC and then I can follow on with the Diploma to show my skills.
What attracted you to do an Apprenticeship with South West Skills Academy?
Quality, word of mouth, friendly service.
What is your current role?
At present I am a carer working full time. I would like to progress within the care company.
What is your typical day like in your current role?
I start work early in the morning and visit my morning clients, to provide breakfast and assist them with personal care, some client like to go shopping or even visit the hairdresser.
My lunch time visits are mainly to cook and assist with all lunch time duties. Some of my clients during the day like domestic duties to be completed.
When visiting clients in the evening I ensure they are comfortable and have everything they need until the next visit the following morning.
Why do you enjoy working as a carer with the organisation you are doing an apprenticeship with?
Even though it sounds like a lot of work, with good support it is not and can be achieved within a year, most of the evidence produced can be x referenced. My advice to future apprentices is to enjoy the learning experience.
